Welcome to The Big Blue Sun Appreciation Society.

We (Big Blue Sun) are an independent musical collective based in Gloucester UK. We write songs inspired by the strange and commonplace happenings going on in the ancient historic English city we live in, keeping busy spinning melodies, rustic beats and quirkiness into songs that crackle with storytelling charm.

Just in case you're wondering the Gloucester Old Spot pig has become a sort of icon for the band for the moment. No connection with Pink Floyd, it was more iconic than double Gloucester cheese that's all.

We started as a four piece band (Dan, George, Shane & Andy) but the invaluable contribution of others from in and around Gloucester has caused us to identify ourselves as more of a collective these days.

We are very much hoping you'll sign up to our network so we can find out who's into our music, possibly meet future collaborators, get into conversation with folk who like to feedback and maybe get some inspiration from people who are hungry to hear some quality songwriting and interesting musicianship.

We're all on board now.

All four of us (me, Dan, Shane & Andy) are set up here now. Just got to get our friends from Way Out West (Pat, Kathryn & Jon) who played on the album and at the launch here too and we'll have a full set.

There was a band meeting last week, but I couldn't make it due to my bathroom deciding to sprout leaks everywhere, but the lads enjoyed a pint without me. I met with Dan yesterday and he told me what he's got in store and that he aims to… Continue

Post gig

Yesterday was great. Here's what happened in chronological order:

1pm met with Dan & Shane at the rehearsal space to pick up our equipment (2 car loads).

2pm dropped the stuff off at the Guildhall

2.30pm went and chilled out, newspaper, hot chocolate in the bookshop

3pm Andy arrived from work

4pm started setting up equipment (this is always tough on Dan because although Shane and I are scurrying around being busy there's arguably more pressure on Dan and he's… Continue

Shane & Ken

Wondertubs
Shane, our drummer, is photography mad.

Go have a look at his photos - they're great.

Introducing Absolute Twaddle

Ken (on the right) is our non-musician member, although he does tinkle the ivories infrequently (he's better than George at the piano anyway) is a specialist at sitting in chairs. He's been practicing for ages. Go have a look at his strange and peculiar site.
